Absences

Reporting Absences

If your child is absent from school please phone the school office before 8.55am to ensure this important information is passed on to the class teacher.  We have a dedicated absence line where a message can be left.

We ask that you phone us each day of your child’s absence or give us a return date.  If we have an unexplained absence, we will text to find out more. If we don’t hear from you by 9.30am, a phone call will be made home.

Please also note that for school records we need to know why your child is absent e.g. tummy upset rather than just ‘ill’.

It is also important to remember that if your child has sickness or diarrhoea, then they must stay away from school for 48 hours after their last episode.

Holidays in term time

Every day in school makes a difference to your child – it provides continuity in learning and this impacts on achievement. Please do consider carefully if you are planning a holiday in term time.

Holidays within school time can only be authorised under special circumstances.  In most cases, family holidays are recorded as an unauthorised absence.  If you wish to take your child out of school, then requests should be emailed to the Head Teacher.

Requests for a holiday in excess of two school weeks require permission from the Local Authority.
